The Harbor at Harrisville Michigan
Harrisville
Harbor is located on Michigan's "Sunrise Side" and the beautiful
shoreline of Lake Huron. We are strategically located on Lake Huron,
half-way between the Straits of Mackinaw and Detroit. Our amenities include
97 slips, courtesy van, service docks and friendly town-folk.
Area businesses offer amenities from lodging, camping, dining, golfing, beaches or just a night out on the town.
The Harrisville Harbor of Refuge was created in 1961, when the US Army Corps
of Engineers began the project. A large basin had to be created along the
shoreline by dynamiting, dredging and removing huge boulders. After the
basin was created, a large lime stone wall was constructed around the basin
to create a harbor of refuge for anchorage and shelter. In 1963, a fixed
dock was erected, providing dockage, fueling facilities, and a primitive
comfort station. In 1986, with the assistance of the Michigan Waterways
Commission, the current facilities of floating docks and a more modern
comfort station was developed.
